I love Australian artist Elspeth McLean‘s paintings. They pulsate with vibrant color. Of all her paintings, I chose this one for today because of the way she included an outside element (the raven) flying over this full array of dotted mandalas.
From her site, about this painting she states:
“The raven often is seen in negative light (perhaps because of its loud song or black feather) but actually it is a highly intelligent creature- it can even learn to speak! They have been seen as a symbol of freedom because they can walk on land, fly the skies and even swim! For myself, I saw a vision of the raven drawing back darkness like a curtain and revealing the light.”
About her art:
For Elspeth colour is a way to express and celebrate the colour’s of her soul and spirit. The use of dots and circles in her artwork come not only from a space of meditation but also because circle is the symbol of unity and infinity
And in case your curious…she creates her dots using just paint and the brush end of her paint brushes. Amazing.
