This beautiful mandala resides on the facade of the Cathedral Basilica of Barcelona probably the most renowned “work in progress” on the planet. Pamela Unplugged visited Barcelona in 2013 and captured this great shot of the mandala above the main entrance to the cathedral. Actually her original photo captured the whole facade. Because of the photo’s size, I could zero in on the mandala without loosing the quality of the image.
The attention to details and the craftsmanship by the artisans that created this facade just astounds me. We can see mandalas within mandalas in and around the main one, as well as to the left and right of the “triangle” tip.
Usually its the stained glass windows in cathedrals that I notice first. In this case however it’s this delicate structure. And even though it’s gray, a color most people tend to avoid, in this case it enhances the design.
This mandala inspires me to color a mandala using only grays so that the design becomes the focus rather than the colors.
Needless to say (although I’m going to say it anyway), I added the Cathedral de Barcelona to my must-see-in-person list.
