At last weekend’s Corvallis Fall Festival, I spotted some fascinating pottery by Hilda Kidd-Barber of Fishbowl Pottery. I really appreciate her beautiful use of mixed media: basket weaving and ceramics. “The stoneware is all wheel thrown, then altered so that reed can be woven through the top third of the vessel after it has been fired.”
From her web site she states this about her art:
I believe that art serves many purposes–to be interesting and challenging, to create peace and harmony and to make a statement. I have tried to incorporate this philosophy into my artwork.
Her art inspires me to think beyond my normal idea of mixed media…hmmm…like maybe attaching ceramic beads onto canvas or using string/yarn/twine to outline a mandala design on a painted wood panel.
What two media would you mix together that would seem like an out-of-the-ordinary combination?
Happy Coloring!
If you would want your mandala or your idea for a mandala to be considered for the “Mandala of the Day”, read about how on the Participate page. It’s easy! Or recommend one you’ve seen via my Contact page.
