This week’s MotD theme: Time After Time
Photographer, HobbiesTooMany, took this overhead photo of the Ingleside Terraces (Urbano) Sundial in San Francisco using a kite! Built in early 1900’s this 34′ wide sundial, still keeps time…except on cloudy days or during daylight savings time.
Along with the sundial being a mandala, so too are the four outer circles, and the large circle that surrounds the entire park-like area. The pathway creates a very interesting lotus petal-like design within the overall space. If you look closely at this photo, you’ll also notice that someone is standing halfway up the dial.
Read more about this awesome sundial in this 2014 San Francisco Weekly article or read this more mysterious article about it from the FoundSF site.
Inspiration for Today
HobbiesTooMany’s photo and the builders of the sundial both demonstrate how we can work with nature to create beautiful and functional (most of the time) works of art.
Happy Coloring!
If you would want your mandala or your idea for a mandala to be considered for the “Mandala of the Day”, read about how on the Participate page. It’s easy! Or recommend one you’ve seen via my Contact page.
