This week’s MotD theme: Metal
In Fushun, China, they built this, $16 million, 515′ landmark portal structure, known as the Ring of Life . What an amazing engineering feat! Designed to be a viewing platform, it is made up of 3,000 tons of steel and decorated with 12,000 LED lights.

I love how the skin of the curvature shape is made up of ‘tons’ of triangles. What a fascinating concept: using angular shapes to make a curvy structure.
About the structure from The Escapist Magazine:
A Chinese official from Fushun named Xia Hongjun said the city had difficulty building entertainment facilities because of the relatively small population of Fushun. Its total of 1.3 million people only ranks Fushun as China’s 75th largest city. I suppose that many people is small potatoes to the Chinese, so Fushun’s municipal government built the Ring of Life to encourage tourism. Four elevators will be installed in the building to bring sightseers up to the top.
All it needs are some interesting glyphs and we have a Stargate! Won’t the conspiracy theorists and sci-fi people have a field day with this! 🙂
