This week’s MotD theme: Dessert

I present my coloring/painting of this week’s Mandala of the Week: Dessert (from Sunday’s MotD post). Upon first thinking about how I to paint this one, I immediately saw the dark blue background throughout the piece. I then proceeded to paint in the remaining mandala outline with color choices that popped into my head as I approached each “row”.

When I finished painting it, I was a bit disappointed in how it turned out. It seemed dull and boring. That’s when I heard the voices in my head say…get your gel pens!

Then with hardly any real thought as to what I was doing with them, I just flew through the piece with different pen colors, popping in dots of different colors all over the place, with silver stars and white accents and highlights.

Adding all of these embellisments made the whole piece come to life, giving it much needed dimension and sizzle. I love how it turned out! *

The whole time I kept hearing “like icing on a cake, like icing on a cake.”

* ps: my scanner recently decided to add the blue & red lines into each image I scan. I’m going to see if I can fix it. Otherwise I’ll have to get a new one.

Inspiration for Today

Going with the “icing on the cake” thought, we’re reminded to go the extra mile, to exceed our own expectations, enhancing what we can already do. Allowing ourselves to be the bow on the gift, the star on the tree, the icing on the cake!

Happy Coloring!
