This week’s MotD theme: The Color Purple
I present my coloring/painting of this week’s Mandala of the Week: The Color Purple (from Sunday’s MotD post). I took a whole new approach to painting this week’s MotW. As I prepped to paint it, I saw the entire mandala awash with a layer of purple.
So that’s what I did. I put down a layer of watercolor purple all over the whole mandala. From there I added a whole lotta extra black lines to outline and emphasize the design. Then with white, neon pink, neon orange, neon green and neon yellow I added a whole lotta colorful dots to highlight the different sections throughout.
Inspiration for Today
Over the last two months, my husband and I watched all seven seasons of Nurse Jackie, a drama-comedy about a drug-addicted yet super talented/dedicated nurse coping with a messed-up personal life and a hectic work life in a hospital ER. Last night we watched the last three episodes.
As I painted, I thought about Jackie’s struggles and how I “tsk-tsk’d” at her relapses. How could she do that to her family, her co-workers, her friends, HERSELF! Then it occurred to me that while my “drug of choice” may be different (people-pleasing, food, procrastination, etc.), my behavior and struggles coincide with hers. I realized that I could ask the same questions of myself.
Today’s MotD encourages us to embrace and honor our super selves, that part of us that excels and loves what we do, that knows what we truly want for our lives and knows/sees our full potential. Make it so!
We allow ourselves to be all that we can and want to be.
