This week’s MotD Theme: Glass
Wisconsin glass artist, Wes Hunting, from Hunting Studio Glassworks, formed this stunning sculpture…all from glass…as part of his Crystal Portals series. Wow! What an amazing piece! I love all the colors and dimension, and the extraordinary layering of many mandala like structures within the glass.
About Wes from ArtfulHome website:
He is known for his incredible skill with cane and murrini as well as remarkably intricate, abstract patterns drawn on hot glass.
The vibrant colors and patterns are “drawn” onto the glass surface at temperatures exceeding 2000 degrees. Hunting combines various Italian techniques, such as millefiore and zanfirico, with decorative techniques that he has personally developed and refined. While the forms of his work have changed over the years, they have always remained simple, with the intention that they never distract from the increasing complexities of the surface decoration.

Inspiration For Today
Wes’ Crystal Portals remind us that we too consist of many layers, which for the most part we keep hidden from view. Yet if we saw how all these layers, which individually may seem less-than perfect, come together in full view, we would see that we each become very interesting, intricate pieces of glorious art.
If you would want your mandala or your idea for a mandala to be considered for the “Mandala of the Day”, read about how on the Participate page. It’s easy! Or recommend one you’ve seen via my Contact page.
