Hand-gilded glass bowl in 23-Karat gold, hand-painted in black with added embellishment of etched peek-a-boo design. 6.25″ x 3.75″
This week’s MotD theme: Bowl Me Over
Corvallis artist extraordinaire, Jan Maitland, of Jan Maitland Studio and Gallery, whom I’m thrilled to say I know, creates these exquisitely unique gold-gilded glass bowls to perfection! This one in particular, entitled “Landscape Shapes” caught my eye because of her use of three core shapes (triangle, circle, rectangle), outlined in dots, overlapping each other in her delightful “peek-a-boo” style.
About her gilded glass bowls she states:
My glass art pieces are all one-of-a-kind. Each is individually hand painted and gilded with 23-Karat gold leaf or silver leaf. This process is called verre églomisé, a term for cold painting and gilding on the back of glass.
Along with her glass bowls, she also paints magnificent glass paintings and glass table tops. And she makes gorgeous one-of-a-kind gold jewelry and beautiful fine art pastel portraits and landscapes, which she also makes available on silk scarves via her Vida shop.

Inspiration for Today
Jan’s powerful bowl encourages us to always seek out new areas of possibilities for growth and expansion; to be on the lookout for more opportunities to explore that which makes our hearts sing; to express ourselves in new and delightful ways each and every day.
