23-015 Decide #1

This week we look at Principle #3 from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles” entitled “Decide what you want”. He states: “One of the main reasons why most people don’t get what they want is they haven’t decided what they want. They haven’t defined their desires in clear and compelling detail.” I fit into this “most people” category.

I realize it may seem strange since I’m creating and posting a bunch of “stuff” and yet in my mind, overall my life lacks a sense of cohesiveness, a clear sense of direction. It’s more of a “seat-of-my-pants” operation than a case where I’m at point A and I’m headed to point B.

For today’s MotD, I’m focusing on a phrase I heard in my youth; so much so that I’ve developed a lack of confidence in knowing what I truly want. The phrase was always said after I expressed an interest in doing something that I was excited about: “you don’t want to do that.” Since the people who tended to say this to me have passed on, my lovely psyche has taken over the job. Often times I’ll have an idea to do something and then this other voice jumps in with some variation of “oh, you don’t want to do that.” Then I talk myself out of doing whatever that idea was. It’s quite disheartening. The good news is now that I’m well aware of this voice, I can work on understanding it, finding a way to work with it and/or finding a way to work around it.

Today’s coloring reflects (to me anyway) the brilliant ideas I have/I get (the hearts), and how they’re overshadowed by this negative voice. We’ll see how this transforms with the colorings this week and as I (hopefully) figure out and decide what I want.

So how about you? Do you know what you want? Have you decided on what you want? Or do you have a negating voice that psyches you out? Do you struggle with determining what you want?

“I needed to turn off
the negative voice in my head
– I was psyching myself out.”
