23-105 Just Ask #7

Today’s Mandala Message: Assume That You Can

This week I’m working through Principles #17 and #18 from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles” entitled “Ask! Ask! Ask!” and “Reject Rejection” respectively. I set my intention today to ponder the idea of assuming that “I can” expect a yes. When in comes to asking, Canfield states: “Don’t start with the assumption that you can’t get it. If you are going to assume, assume you CAN get an upgrade. … Don’t assume against yourself.”

I grew up with the notion that to assume a negative outcome was being realistic. What a horrible notion to put into anyone’s head, especially a child’s. In looking back on my life, the reality has been that most of the time I’ve gotten what I wanted, and if I didn’t, it was mostly for the best because something better came along or it put me on a different path that suited me better.

These days I find myself being triggered whenever someone says to me that realistically you probably won’t get what you want. I prefer Canfield’s suggestion of assuming FOR myself…knowing full well that if it turns out otherwise, something better is on the horizon.

So how about you? Do you tend to assume that the answer will be no? Are you of the belief that thinking “realistically” is assuming you won’t get what you want? Are you open to changing that mindset?

“Once you replace
negative thoughts
with positive ones,
you’ll start having
positive results.”
