Today’s Mandala Message: Do You Need a Mentor or a Coach?

This week I’m working through Principles #44 and #45 from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles” entitled “Find a Wing to Climb Under” and “Hire a Personal Coach” respectively. I set my intention today to ponder whether I need a mentor or a coach. So what’s the difference? According to PushFar.com they define them as such:

“A mentor is someone who shares their knowledge, skills and/or experience, to help another to develop and grow. A coach is someone who provides guidance to a client on their goals and helps them reach their full potential.” In essence, a mentor is someone who has a specific area of expertise while a coach has a broader range, a higher perspective…think forest vs a tree.

BTW: I highly recommend reading the full article article on PushFar.com entitled: Mentoring vs Coaching: the key differences and benefits

For me I can see where I could use a mentor to help with my art marketing and publishing needs while a coach could help me clarify my branding and messaging along with helping guide me through my projects and goals.

A good mindfulness practice would be contemplate who could help you more: a mentor or a coach?

So how about you? Would a mentor be a better resource for you right now? Or would a coach be better? Or like me, could you use a little bit of both?

“…both coaching and mentoring
are about helping people
to get where they want to go
by leveraging the experience
of the coach or mentor.
They can be seen to evolve
from directive (mentoring)
to non-directive (coaching)…”
