“showing the strong desire to follow a particular plan of action even if it is difficult”
Today’s MotD asks us to explore the idea of “being determined”. So many success stories involve people who wouldn’t let anyone or anything get in the way of their dreams despite the obstacles. In fact for some, the obstacles are what gave them even more determination.
I can think of many instances in my life where I was “determined” to succeed: becoming a mandala artist, training for and running/finishing the L.A. marathon, going after my computer science degree at night while working a full-time day job, beating my dad in a spaghetti eating contest, opening my studio shop downtown (had it for 2 years!), finishing the Archangel 1 Mandala (it took 7 years), creating a mandala a day for the last two years (i’m now on year 3), running after and retrieving my new box kite that had flown out of my hand (I was 10, we were on the beach at Cape Cod and I had to run at least a half a mile to get and then convince the kid who had picked it up that it was mine), and and so on.
In all these instances I can recall the “strong desire” in all of them and how I overcame the deterrents in each case. Now I’m faced with probably the biggest deterrent: my limiting beliefs that keep me from fulfilling even bigger and better dreams.
Today’s MotD is asking me to be “determined” about overcoming these beliefs…because, after all, all a belief is, is an opinion—rarely based on facts. At one point I decided to believe something limiting about myself—I can now decide to replace it with another one: I am determined to make my dreams a reality…I’ve done it before, I can do it again.
How about you? Is being determined a core value for you?
btw…here’s what it looked like before:

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day
Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
