“activity done for enjoyment when one is not working”
Wouldn’t it be awesome to do something you enjoy doing that also happens to be your job??? I’m blessed in that these days that’s exactly what I do. Yes, there are some tedious parts of it but for the most part, I enjoy my job. The downside is that especially over the last 5 years, I’ve tended to do my job by myself.
Back when I worked as a software engineer, I actually enjoyed the programming part…it was fun and most of the projects I worked on were interesting and challenging. The not-so-enjoyable part was being able to cope with the excruciating administrative side of it and the old-school, hierarchical management system. Actually, most of the jobs I’ve had over the years had these challenges. Thankfully, I had a bunch of friends that I played with on my off hours.
Science and studies have shown that recreation feeds and replenishes our overall well-being. And even though I love what I do now, I could use some other enjoyable activities that would involve hanging out with other people. Yes, let’s make that happen this year.
