Honesty

”showing respect towards others and having integrity and self-awareness”

It’s 2024 and who knew that “honesty” (or the lack thereof) would be as paramount as it is these days. I would have thought by now, it would be a given that being truthful, being honest would be a fundamentally core trait across the land. Sadly, it’s not. We seem to be so divided on so many levels that we struggle to determine who’s telling truth and who’s not. And with the introduction of AI, the illusions and delusions make it even more challenging to discern the truth.

That being said, it’s time we each looked inward to unveil where we are lacking in integrity…because what’s going on inside of us is projected out into the world and reflected back at us…making us think that the problem is really out there…when in reality it’s an inside job.

We are being encouraged to take an honest look at our thoughts, words, and deeds…from the small to the huge. Are we being totally honest with ourselves? Where are we lying to ourselves? And why?

Oh boy…this is a tough one for me. I know I need some work in this area…especially when it comes to being honest with myself. It’s too long to get into the details here so I’ll just keep it short. I realize that the lies I tell myself are ego-based and fear-based; and some come from believing what others have said as “truth” to me or about me.

It occurred to me just now that using Byron Katie’s “The Work” would be an appropriate tool to use for processing through these issues. It’s quite powerful. Essentially you take something that you believe about yourself and you answer these four questions:

  1. Is it true?
  2. Can you absolutely know that it’s true?
  3. How do you react when you believe that thought?
  4. Who would you be without the thought?

How about you? Is honesty a core value for you?

BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with:

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day

Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
