Greatness
“the quality of being distinguished or eminent”
This is another of those subjective words: what does greatness mean to you? what does great mean to you? In some instances, the word “great” is used sarcastically…giving it a whole new meaning.
For the root word “great”, I like to think of it as meaning above normal, above average, that it in some way distinguishes itself from the usual. I realize that “greatness” also includes being famous in its definition. In everyday life, fame can be translated as: being know for something. I would hope that I would be known for my love of mandalas, for the quality of the art I create, that I always strive to learn new ways to create them, new ways to present them, and new ways to improve upon them.
The whole time I was writing this post, I kept hearing my Inner Voice saying: “Strive for greatness…Strive for greatness…Strive for greatness”. For me that translates into “strive to do better”…not in a judgy way or in a way that implies that what I’m doing right now is “not good enough”…but more in the sense that: there’s always room for improvement, I can always improve upon what I’ve already created.
I can look back on my 25 years of making mandalas and see how much I’ve grown, which tells me that I can do even better…that if I’ve come this far in 25 years, imagine where I’ll be in 25 more years.
How about you? Is greatness a core value for you?
BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with and a “gold” view…

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day
Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
