24-113 Generosity

Generosity

“willingness and liberality in giving away one’s money and/or time”

I usually don’t think of myself as generous, mostly because I tend to think of generosity in terms of money, which I tend to hold onto rather than share. However, I tend to be generous with my time and my art. Just sharing the Mandalas of the Day/Week/Month/Year takes a lot of my time…granted I happen to enjoy doing them, so that makes it easier for me to be generous with them.

One area where I definitely lack any generosity is with food. Did you ever see that Friend’s TV episode where Joey declares: “Joey doesn’t share food!”. That’s me. The first time this episode aired, I immediately turned to my husband and proclaimed…”see, it’s a thing! It’s not just me!” Now it’s a running joke between us. It didn’t change me in any way to know this, it just gave me validation to continue feeling this way.

I envy people who are able to be generous in every way. My sense is that by giving things away I fear there won’t be enough for me…there’s that “enough” word again. In my youth I always seemed to be put in situations where everyone else’s needs had to be taken care of first before anything could be done for me. I realize that haven’t fully grieved that time in my life. So I know I have some more healing work to do.

How about you? Is generosity a core value for you?

BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with…

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day

Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
