Candor
“the quality of being open and honest especially about a difficult or embarrassing subject”
You know that line from “A Few Good Men”…”You can’t handle the truth!”…well, you know what, I can handle the truth. As a matter of fact, I’d rather hear the truth over any lie/deceit/cover-up…any day. I can work with truth.
Personally I think there’d be a lot less chaos in the world if we all had more candor. Of course there would probably be less movies and tv shows because most of them rely on someone being misinformed or someone lying to drive the story.
I digress. On an individual level, a lot of relationships would be healed or better understood if more of us were open and honest. In my dad’s family alone, I witnessed a lot of hurt because some of the members thought it would be better to hold back rather than be honest. I remember telling my mother, (I was about 12 at the time), that I wished everyone in the family would get in a big room, and just let everyone open up about what’s really going on…I’d make it so that no one leaves the room until everything is settled. My mother’s reply? “his family would never agree to do that”. And thus the pain continues 58 years later.
The other side of candor, the opening up part is that when we are open and honest, it gives those around us permission to be open and honest as well. We usually learn that we’re not alone; other people feel the same or similar to some degree. In fact, more people would probably appreciate our candor than being us quiet or worse, lying. At the very least, it could give people the opportunity to know if they can handle it or not. Then you know.
How about you? Is candor a core value for you?
BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with and a slanted view to see the gold…

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day
Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
