Big-Thinking
“breaking out of our own self-imposed limiting beliefs”
So…limiting beliefs…even more difficult to swallow is the “self-imposed” part. I’ve been dealing with (not resolving…but dealing with) LBs for years. Somehow seeing the adjective “self-imposed” drives home to me that I’m the one who took on these LBs…as if I’m the one who put on these heavy chains, claiming “whoa is me” when all I have to do is drop the chains. There are no locks involved; the chains are draped over me, I took on this burden…I can remove the burden.
Three weeks ago I ask ChatGPT to give me a simple definition for LBs. Here’s what it gave me:
“A limiting belief is like a mental barrier that holds you back from achieving your full potential. It’s a thought or conviction that you accept as true, but it restricts you from exploring new opportunities or reaching your goals.”
I actually have some big-thinking ideas that I want to pursue and each time I go there, some little voice inside gives me an excuse not to do it…and, sadly, I go along with it…without even questioning it. I think it’s time I talked back to that little voice.
One of the big take-always from Gay Hendricks’ book, The Big Leap, is about taking responsibility for our life and choices, and adopting a positive mindset, which just happens to be the focus card for this week. It involves replacing negative thoughts and LBs with empowering ones. And “minding my thoughts” just happens to be my personal focus card for the month of June. Ok…duly noted. Time to drop the chains.
How about you? Is big-thinking a core value for you?
BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day
Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
