Tolerance
“sympathy or indulgence for beliefs or practices differing from or conflicting with one’s own”
Is it just me or could we seriously use more tolerance in the world these days? I admit I struggle with this especially when it comes to our divisive political climate…but we’re not going there today.
To be upfront with you…As I write this, I’m also participating in a live (free) 2-day zoom class on public speaking…something I want to pursue that I thought would be helpful…buuuuuutttttt…I’m having trouble tolerating the facilitator…so far they are practically yelling everything they’re saying. I’m sure it’s about showing their enthusiasm but it’s triggering some childhood stuff. How can I tolerate listening to this? Excellent question. It’s being recorded so why I would tolerate staying? Another excellent question…especially since I’m participating in the Salem Mystic Fair on Saturday, and I could really use this time for prepping. So, I took care of myself and left the class.
In assessing this example with the definition, this was a case of not being able to indulge in this person’s practice of being inauthentically (imho) enthusiastic. I also have to admit, now that I think about it, that in general, I have a low tolerance for a lot of things…mainly because of my misophonia, as well as being a highly sensitive person (to food, smells, light, people, energies, etc.).
Rereading what I’ve written so far, I’m reminded about “projection” and how what we don’t face within ourselves, we project out into the world. So I’m thinking that maybe I need to do some more internal work…to heal the parts of myself that I having trouble tolerating. What is it about me that I don’t tolerate? The weird thing is I think (or thought) of myself as a tolerant person. Now I’m thinking…maybe not. Time to go back to the drawing board.
Apologies…this became more of a personal journal entry than a public blog post. If you made it this far, thank you for indulging me. How tolerant of you. ❤️
How about you? Is tolerance a core value for you?
BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

joyfully,

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day
Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
