Speed

“the rate of change or position of an object in any direction”

Let’s face it, in our society, our current rate of speed is fast. We’re made to feel like everything has to happen quickly. And while “speed” is really about the rate of it, we generally think of the word “speed” as “going fast”. We’ve lost our appreciation for patience, pacing ourselves, and slowing down.

Our challenge is taking control of our rate of speed, by consciously choosing that rate. For the most part our rate of speed is influenced by how others pressure us to change our speed…in either direction.

We’re also influenced by our own thinking…that we have to hurry up or else. Because of that influence, things get overlooked, mistakes happen, and time ends up being wasted…and things take even longer to accomplish.

I know for me, if I’m feeling rushed, I generally mess something up because I’m not fully present. My brain is about 10 minutes ahead of my body…I’m sure that accounts for most of my bruises…because there’s a disconnect between where my brain is versus where my body is.

Yes, of course some things require a fast pace (emergencies, some sporting events, deadlines, action movies—can you imagine superman only going 1 mph???—, and so on) but really…do we have to move as fast as we think we do? For most of us I think it’s conditioning. Although, science has proven that the Universe is expanding at an exponential rate (getting faster) rather than at a steady pace…that may be having an effect on us as well.

Regardless, today we’re focused on consciously choosing our rate of speed. Do we really need to be in a constant state of urgency or can we take a moment to be present, allowing ourselves to slow down long enough to set our own pace.

I’m reminded of something my Team of Guides and Angels share with me and with the readings I do for people:

We have all the time we need
to do all that we need to do
even if it takes a couple of lifetimes
to do it.

How about you? Is speed a core value for you?

BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day

Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
