White Flag
This week we focus on “Sweet Surrender”. Today’s MotD reminds us that raising the white flag of surrender may be the most helpful value to apply when we’re desperately trying to make something happen and it’s obvious that it’s not going to happen. It may be time to retreat to reevaluate our options.
Like hiring a mechanic, when trying to fix it ourselves makes our vehicle even less drivable. Or letting someone else take over a work project we’re struggling to make finish. Or going to see a therapist when none of the self-help books we’ve been reading have been helping.
Raising the white flag doesn’t mean we’re weak, incapable, or (dog-forbid) a loser, it means we recognize our limits and are strong enough and brave enough to surrender and seek help.
Back in the day when I was in college, our instructor told us we could call his office to get our final grade. When I called, the woman told us she was not allowed to give out that information over the phone. I vehemently argued with her for 10-15 minutes. Internally I was in a rage, externally I was doing all I could to be polite—it wasn’t working. I finally had to concede—good for her for holding her ground.
When I got off the phone and calmed down a bit, though, I realized that my reaction to her abiding by the rules, was WAY bigger than the situation warranted. Having had therapy in the past, I recognized my triggered reaction and opted back into much-needed therapy.
How about you ? Are you able to raise the white flag when things are not going to go your way ? How overwhelmed do you need to be before you surrender ? How self-aware are you to be able to surrender ?
BTW…Here’s the before…the front and back view of today’s puzzle piece and the pretty ceramic box that holds all my numbers from which I randomly choose each day’s puzzle piece number:

ABOUT THE 2025 Mandalas of the Day
Throughout the year, I’ll be building one large (48”x48”) Tibetan-styled Mandala one piece at a time…one puzzle piece at a time, that is. The mandala design and the reversed puzzle side were printed on artist-quality watercolor paper. The forward facing puzzle side was printed on a 48”x48” wood panel.
Each day, at random, I’ll be painting in watercolors one of the 365 watercolor puzzle pieces, that by the end of the year will become Archangel Mandala #4. Read more about the Archangel Series. The word/message for each piece will be inspired by Melody Beattie’s book “52 Weeks of Conscious Contact”.
Ultimately, the message of this mandala is about how we are all uniquely part of the one.
