Lesson 071: ”Only God’s plan for salvation will work.”
AI Reframe: Only a perspective rooted in peace truly resolves things.
Suggested Exercise:
Two 10-15 minutes practices today. Begin by thinking about today’s idea and how it contains two parts: God’s* plan for your salvation** will work…and…other plans will not. Other plans have led to depression and anger. God’s* plan leads to release and joy. Devote the remainder of time asking God* to reveal His* plan to us. Specifically ask:
What would You have me do?
Where would You have me go?
What would You have me say, and to whom?
An alternate version could be…
What would Love have me do?
Where would Love have me go?
What would Love have me say, and to whom?
He* will answer in proportion to your willingness to hear His voice. The fact that you’re doing the exercises means you have some degree of willingness to listen.
For shorter periods, spend up to a minute, 6 or 7 times an hour with today’s idea. Be alert to all temptation to hold grievances today, and respond to them with this form of today’s idea:
Holding grievances is the opposite of God’s plan for salvation. And only His plan will work.
* The Course defines “His[God]” as an impersonal, formless, and infinite principle of pure Love. Substitute whatever term that resonates best and allows you to receive the message.
** Salvation is simply the choice to let go of guilt and see the world—and everyone in it—through the eyes of love, thereby waking up from the dream of separation.

Message
Yesterday I experienced the difference between Love’s plan for salvation and my ego-mind’s—Earnest’s—plan. Even as it played out, I had conscious awareness of what was happening and still conceded to Earnest.
I have a small but important part in a local community play. At the end of rehearsal, our director complimented my acting partner on something they were doing in our scene. Since I’m not looking at them much in that scene, I didn’t know what the director meant. The actor left before I could ask.
That’s when Earnest kicked in. He was off to the races in under five seconds.
“What is that actor doing? Are they trying to pull attention off me? They’ve done this before—always adding something extra to get attention. I only have a small part. Why are they sabotaging me? Will people laugh more at them than me?”
I need to talk to them. Without that, I’m just speculating. Maybe they’re grabbing attention. Maybe they’re serving the story, their part, and mine.
Off and on through the evening and most of yesterday, Earnest found new grievances while looping through the old ones. Each time I caught it, my body was tense, anxiety spiked, and I couldn’t focus. Then I’d remember what we’ve learned and Earnest would retreat—only to pop up again thirty minutes later.
At one point in the shower, the looping hit manic proportions. I yelled into the water, “Earnest! Stop!”
I started repeating, “Help me see this differently. Help me see this differently. Help me see this differently.”
“Remember the lessons” came back to me.
Okay. What’s really happening? I put Earnest in charge. He’s in victim mode, expressing grievances. And what are grievances? Anything that takes me from my natural state of peace.
I need saving from these grievances. That’s salvation. What is salvation? Seeing a person or situation through the eyes of love.
How does God fit? God’s plan—God’s will—for us is happiness. With peace, we experience happiness.
What about me? I am the light of the world. And so is this actor.
I applied these thoughts to the actor and the situation as Earnest perceived it—from victim mode. I wanted to bring us back to peace. Remembering the light in both of us pulled me out from under Earnest’s cloud.
When I arrived at rehearsal last night, I nervously approached the actor. I wanted to ask from “God’s plan,” not Earnest’s. Turns out, all they’re doing is a small head move when I first enter. It has no effect on me or my part. It clarifies something about their character.
I almost wrote about this yesterday—before I knew about the head move—but something told me this situation would serve better for today’s lesson.
I saw, in real time, that only Love’s plan for salvation works.
