Lesson 073: ”I will there be light.”

AI Reframe: I choose clarity instead of confusion.

Suggested Exercise:
For the longer practice periods, we start with acknowledging God’s* plan for salvation* and only His* is in accord with our will. After this reminder, and keeping this clearly in mind, tell yourself with quiet certainty:

“I will there be light. Let me behold the light that reflects God’s Will and mine.”

For the remainder of the practice under the guidance of His Will and your Self. Join Them and let Them lead the way.

In the shorter reactive periods, again make a declaration of what you really want. Say:

“I will there be light. Darkness is not my will.”

Repeat several times an hour and especially when you are tempted to hold a grievance of any kind.

* The Course defines “Father/God/His” as an impersonal, formless, and infinite principle of pure Love. Substitute whatever term that resonates best and allows you to receive the message.

** Salvation is simply the choice to let go of guilt and see the world—and everyone in it—through the eyes of love, thereby waking up from the dream of separation.

Message

Today I noticed just how much—and how often—grievances take over my peace. You’d think it would be the big things. But no. It’s the little annoyances: when the plastic wrap won’t tear cleanly, when I’m stuck behind a slow driver, when I misplace my phone, when I run out of toilet paper and forgot to stock up, when I’m comfortably in bed and realize my glasses are in the other room. And so on.

They’re like gnats. They don’t hurt you, but they make life annoying by their mere presence.

I noticed it especially at the farmers’ market this morning. I found myself annoyed by people just… being people. Blocking my view of vendors. Stopping mid-walk. Letting their kids whine. Thankfully, I remembered today’s lesson. Pretty much the whole time I was there, I kept repeating:

“I will there be light.

Even when the light didn’t come right away, the words themselves pulled me away from the grievance and pointed me toward my peace. It was like saying to myself:

Oh yeah. That’s right. I want to be an expression of peace and love. Thank you for the reminder.

*** A grievance is anything that overshadows, blocks, or disconnects me from my true Self: love, peace, and joy. It’s the insane decision to hold onto the chains (the past) because we’re afraid that letting them go would mean disappearing into a light we don’t yet trust.

“The part that stands out in Lesson 73…is how easy it is to pass the barrier of grievances that stand between me and my happiness. It’s worth repeating. It’s easy.
