Lesson 103: ”God, being Love, is also happiness.”
AI Reframe: Love and happiness are the same essence.
Suggested Exercise:
For the first five minutes of each hour—or whenever feasible—sit quietly to feel the truth of today’s lesson. Begin with saying this:
God, being Love, is also happiness.
To fear Him is to be afraid of joy.
”Allow this one correction to be placed within your mind each waking hour today. ²Then welcome all the happiness it brings as truth replaces fear, and joy becomes what you expect to take the place of pain.” (ACIM, W-103.3:1-2)
Then throughout the day let this statement assuage your fears:
God, being Love, is also happiness.
And it is happiness I seek today.
I cannot fail, because I seek the truth.

The lesson starts with this:
”Happiness is an attribute of love. ²It cannot be apart from it. ³Nor can it be experienced where love is not. ⁴Love has no limits, being everywhere. ⁵And therefore joy is everywhere as well.” (ACIM, W-103.1:1-5)
In a previous lesson we learned that we are as Love created us. Since happiness is an attribute, love and happiness become our Divine right—inherent in all of us.
Yet our ego-mind, via a fear of God, would have us believe there are limits to His love and thus happiness. Today we’re asked to rethink this so we can recognize that to fear Him is to fear joy.
From an ego mindset, I can understand fearing joy. For many of us, being joyful or happy means living in fear that it could be taken at any moment. Which means we never fully experience joy. The logic becomes: better to stay miserable than to experience joy only to lose it. Even as I write this, I see how ridiculous that sounds. Why would we fear the One who wills love and happiness for us?
During one of the practices, as I thought about “God, being Love,” an image came to mind of my father. He was funny, kind, generous, and clever—until one of us triggered his wrath. I realize now: that’s how I see God. Like the adage: the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.
Up until this lesson, I thought I saw God as loving and kind. Now I realize I see Him as conditional. Delving deeper, I questioned why we fear joy being taken away. The thought “we’re not worthy of joy” came up. Oh, we can have a taste, but it’s only temporary—per the ego-mind.
That’s not God’s Will for us. Joy and happiness are meant to be 24/7, year-round. I admit, that’s a stretch for me to grasp right now. And that’s okay. For today, I can remind myself that God’s Will for me is happiness, giving me permission to receive whatever happiness comes my way.
“We are not here to play it safe. We are here to be the light. To shine our brilliance. To risk. To love. To spread our joy.”
