Lesson 124: ”Let me remember I am one with God.”

AI Reframe: Let me remember my unity with all that is.

Suggested Practice:
From today’s lesson: ”Secure your peace by practicing awareness you are one with your Creator, as He is with you. ³Sometime today, whenever it seems best, devote a half an hour to the thought that you are one with God*. ⁴This is our first attempt at an extended period for which we give no rules nor special words to guide your meditation. ⁵We will trust God’s Voice to speak as He sees fit today, certain He will not fail. ⁶Abide with Him this half an hour. ⁷He will do the rest.” (ACIM, W-124.8:2-7)

Your benefit will not be less if you believe that nothing happens. ²You may not be ready to accept the gain today. ³Yet sometime, somewhere, it will come to you, nor will you fail to recognize it when it dawns with certainty upon your mind.⁴This half an hour will be framed in gold, with every minute like a diamond set around the mirror that this exercise will offer you. ⁵And you will see Christ’s** face upon it, in reflection of your own.” (ACIM, W-124.9:1-5)

* The Course defines “God/Him” as an impersonal, formless, and infinite principle of pure Love. Substitute whatever term that resonates best and allows you to receive the message. The Will of God is our happiness

** Christ = Infinite Principle of Pure Love

Message

Today we open the door a bit more to the idea that we are one with God, one with each other, and one with the Self. The lesson tells us it’s okay if we don’t quite see or feel it today. The important thing is we’re giving ourselves the opportunity to experience it rather than closing the door.

As I did the practice, the movie “Groundhog Day” came to mind, mainly because of these lines from the lesson:

“Our home is safe, protection guaranteed in all we do, power and strength available to us in all our undertakings. We can fail in nothing. Everything we touch takes on a shining light that blesses and that heals. At one with God and with the universe we go our way rejoicing, with the thought that God Himself goes everywhere with us.” (ACIM, W-124.1:1-5)

It may be a bit of a stretch, but hear me out. Once Phil Connors [Bill Murray] realizes he keeps coming back to life—fully intact—only to repeat the same day, he sees he can do whatever he wants. He’s safe. He can fail in nothing. At first he explores darker choices. Then he notices how good it feels to do good deeds. He also sees Rita for who she truly is and wants to win her love. In the process, he becomes his authentic self and experiences peace, love, and joy. By doing so, Rita sees his light. With that connection made, time moves on.

I believe that’s how it is for us. In the higher realm of our existence, we are safe, cannot fail, and are loved and supported. Knowing this makes being in human form easier. We can think of ourselves as players on this stage called Earth, figuring out who we are and what we want.

Thinking of ourselves as actors on a stage, we could approach life like improv—creating scenes, characters, and dialogue spontaneously without a script. Often it’s meant to be funny. What’s missing in our day-to-day lives is that we take ourselves too seriously. How much more fun would it be to experience life from a divine perspective, with joy?

I believe God would prefer it that way, since His will for us is perfect happiness. And since we are one with God, it’s time we created more joy.

“Lesson 124…encourages me to experience the world from a higher, largely invisible frequency.”
