Lesson 171: Review of Lessons 151 and 152
Reframe: Love is all that is; therefore, love flows through me.
Suggested Practice:
From Review V Introduction:
”Let this review become a time in which we share a new experience for you, yet one as old as time and older still.²Hallowed your Name. ³Your glory undefiled forever. ⁴And your wholeness now complete, as God established it. ⁵You are His Son, completing His extension in your own. ⁶We practice but an ancient truth we knew before illusion seemed to claim the world. ⁷And we remind the world that it is free of all illusions every time we say:”
⁸God is but Love, and therefore so am I.
“With this we start each day of our review. ²With this we start and end each period of practice time. ³And with this thought we sleep, to waken once again with these same words upon our lips, to greet another day. ⁴No thought that we review but we surround with it, and use the thoughts to hold it up before our minds, and keep it clear in our remembrance throughout the day. ⁵And thus, when we have finished this review, we will have recognized the words we speak are true.” (ACIM, W-rV.in.10:1–11:5)
With these reviews from 171-180, we’re encouraged to “place faith in the experience that comes from practice, not the means we use. … We use the words, and try and try agin to go beyond them to their meaning, which is far beyond their sound. The sound grows dim and disappears, as we approach the Source of meaning. It is Here we find rest.”
In other words, the “words” are the doorway to experiencing the essence of what the words mean.
Today we take this approach with these two review lessons:
151 All things are echos of the Voice for God. God is but Love, and therefore so am I.
152 The power of decisions is my own. God is but Love, and therefore so am I.
Message
With today’s practice we’re asked to go beyond the words to the energy behind them. As the Manual for Teachers puts it:
”Words can be helpful, particularly for the beginner… Let us not forget, however, that words are but symbols of symbols. ¹⁰They are thus twice removed from reality.” (ACIM, M-21.1:8-10)
So I used the words to set my intention, then let myself go past them. I immediately felt a broad expanse of energy, infinite beyond my brain’s comprehension. Visually it looked like a mystical landscape painting—muted warm tones, soft glows, light blues in the background. It felt like what I imagine heaven to be.
This experience felt like the expression of the main theme: “God is but Love, and therefore so am I.”
For Lesson 151, I glanced around the room and had the sense of mini signs popping up from each thing I saw. Each said the same thing: “God Here.” Lighthearted. A gentle reminder that all things echo the Voice for God.
Lesson 152 tagged onto that. Since the Voice for God speaks through everything, it’s up to us to decide to listen or not. The ego mind might respond: “Why do I have to listen?”
Rather than give an answer you may or may not believe, I’d recommend an experiment, especially if listening for guidance is new to you. Then let the results speak for themselves.
For a period of time—a week, 48 hours, 24 hours—ask God* for guidance, insight, or direction. Stay open to receiving the answer in whatever form it comes. How will you know it’s real? Ask yourself how it feels. How does it feel in your body?
For me, guidance comes in a variety of ways. Sometimes an Inner Voice. Sometimes a physical sensation: goosebumps, a buzzing at the top of my head, or my heart area feeling uplifted. Sometimes from a movie or TV show—a line of dialogue that seems to jump off the screen.
If this is new territory, start with something simple: where to go for dinner, what movie to watch, or what to put on your daily to-do list.
Essentially, today’s review reminds us that we are as Love created us, Love speaks through everything, and Love can help lead the way when we decide to listen.
*God: an impersonal, formless, and infinite principle of pure Love. Substitute whatever term that resonates best and allows you to receive the message. The Will of God is our happiness.
“We’re all different, have varying political beliefs and religious affiliations. But every last one of us eventually shows up in the same bathroom stall.”
