Up until now, we’ve been tiptoeing around the idea of us being the Son of God with lessons like “I am as God created me,” “Love created me like itself,” and “The name of God is my inheritance.” Today, we flat out declare it. We are the Son of God. We are God’s Children. We are God’s Creations.
I understand the Course uses “Son of God” to mean our shared humanity, regardless of gender. But until I started studying the Course in the 90s, I understood “Son of God” to mean Jesus, as most Christians and Catholics do.
Today, we’re not just calling ourselves the Son of God—we’re calling ourselves holy. For many of us, this may be a stretch. I admit, I find it easier to accept others in this light first before I can accept it in myself. It’s only then that I can allow myself to feel like I belong—if everyone else is already there. Yes, I know: some old co-dependency issues continue to linger.
Then I remember that for this series of lessons, we’re to go beyond the words. They lead us to the entryway. It’s up to us to cross the threshold for the meaning. With this in mind, I proceeded with today’s practice and coloring session.
I was reminded of something I heard upon waking about 15 years ago: “I am the Light of God, whole and complete just as I am.” It struck me so profoundly that I wrote it down immediately.
I realize now that it told me everything I needed to know about myself—that I am of the Light and that I am enough. Nothing needs to be added or taken away. Remembering this now supports today’s lesson and was just the nudge I needed to cross the threshold into knowing my truth—if even for a few moments. I’m also realizing I need to see this daily to tip the scales away from the ego and toward my true identity.
I’m gonna need more post-it notes!
