Lesson 233: ”I give my life to God to guide today.”
Reframe: I release control and let life flow through me in alignment.
Suggested Practice:
From now on:
One in the morning and one in the evening for however many minutes feels sufficient. Then every hour remember/recite the idea for the day.
Prayer For today:
(feel free to swap out the wording to whatever resonates with you best)
“Father, I give You all my thoughts today. ²I would have none of mine. ³In place of them, give me Your Own. ⁴I give You all my acts as well, that I may do Your Will instead of seeking goals which cannot be obtained, and wasting time in vain imaginings. ⁵Today I come to You. ⁶I will step back and merely follow You. ⁷Be You the Guide, and I the follower who questions not the wisdom of the Infinite, nor Love whose tenderness I cannot comprehend, but which is yet Your perfect gift to me.” (ACIM, W-233.1:1-7)
For Lessons 231-240: Salvation is the theme. Read the whole article here.
“The Thought of peace was given to God’s Son the instant that his mind had thought of war. ²There was no need for such a Thought before, for peace was given without opposite, and merely was. ³But when the mind is split there is a need of healing. ⁴So the Thought that has the power to heal the split became a part of every fragment of the mind that still was one, but failed to recognize its oneness. ⁵Now it did not know itself, and thought its own Identity was lost.”
“Salvation is undoing in the sense that it does nothing, failing to support the world of dreams and malice. ²Thus it lets illusions go.” (ACIM, W-pII.2.2:1–3:2)
From the PART II Introduction: Read the whole introduction here.
“Words will mean little now. ²We use them but as guides on which we do not now depend. ³For now we seek direct experience of truth alone. ⁴The lessons that remain are merely introductions to the times in which we leave the world of pain, and go to enter peace. ⁵Now we begin to reach the goal this course has set, and find the end toward which our practicing was always geared.” (ACIM, W-pII.in.1:1-5)

Message
From the Lesson:
”Today we have one Guide to lead us on. ²And as we walk together, we will give this day to Him with no reserve at all.³This is His day. ⁴And so it is a day of countless gifts and mercies unto us.” (ACIM, W-233.2:1-4)
Over the last couple of lessons, I’ve noticed how easily I slip into ego mind. I’m usually deep in it before I realize what’s happened. Today I learned that afternoons are when I’m most vulnerable.
Like yesterday, I started out focused. I did the practice, letting God guide me. At one point I felt myself slipping, so I repeated my revised version of yesterday’s lesson (from Lesson 232): God, be in my mind. Every time I applied it, I was amazed at how easily I avoided the slip.
Early in the afternoon, while running errands, I used a different mantra: God, lead me, guide me, show me what to do next. I’d either hear an answer or see an image in my head of what to do. It worked great. I felt good, happy, and present.
So what happened?
After I got home and put away the groceries, I felt a nap coming on. I went to my room and lay down. Then this thought popped in: Oh, you haven’t checked your email in a while. That, I now know, was the ego’s hook. Once I checked email, the next thought led me to YouTube, then Instagram. That was all it took—down the rabbit hole, with my ego mind leading the way.
I’m embarrassed to admit this, but I need to say it so I can see it clearly: two hours passed before the fog cleared enough for me to recognize where I’d been and what I had been doing—or not doing. To break the spell, I recited my mantras and walked around a bit. That brought me back to my True Self and back on track with God as my guide.
Only then could I sit down and write today’s message. This morning, while coloring, I’d decided to wait on writing because I wanted to see how this lesson played out through the day.
I’m glad I did. I gained new insight into the ego’s hook. To break the spell—or better, to avoid falling under it—I need to stay present, especially later in the afternoons or when I’m tired. And I need to question the source of my thoughts, at least until I’m on more solid ground—more readily able to give my life to God to guide today, and every day going forward.
“Lesson 233 asks me to subscribe to the Dude’s watch list. To let Its wisdom pick the features in my life.”
