197 – Tyre Chair Mandala

Tyre Chair by Rocky Road Backpacers

How fun is this!  Rocky Road Backpackers of South Africa included this photo in their blog post promoting a friend’s project to build these beautiful chairs from old tires.

While I’ve seen other chairs made from tires, this one is by far my favorite. I love the mandala rope pattern he used for the seat bottom and back. Even the shadow created from the seat back creates a beautiful mandala design in the grass.

About the project he states:

My friend Richard spent 2 days making the chair. The rope work takes a long time and it must be done with precision otherwise it loses the spiral effect. … We would like to turn this into a community development project to create jobs in a previously disadvantaged community close to where we live.

What a wonderful creative project. I wish them well in their endeavors.

Happy Coloring!

If you would like your mandala to be considered for the “Mandala of the Day”, read how on the Participate page. It’s easy! Or recommend one you’ve seen via my Contact page.
