Today’s MotD comes to us via yet another amazingly talented local artist, Agnes Barton Sabo, a.k.a. Betty Turbo! She creates these delightfully fun, retro art pieces, including this one, containing some delectable combination of food, whimsey and a very creative imagination. Can you see all the mandala shapes in this piece?
About herself and her art she states:
After letterpress heaven and a stint as a professional cake decorator, I now focus full-time on art shenanigans from my headquarters in Oregon. All those adventures have been blended up into the milkshake of radness you now recognize as the world of Betty Turbo. Known best for hand lettering, portraits, and food imagery, my personal campaign for joy and tasty things is spread through original art, greeting cards, plush sculptures, home décor items, and clothing featuring my illustrations. I aim to make my whole life as yummy and colorful as my art, and vice versa!
I smile every time I see one of her new creations posted on her facebook page. When I think of her, I see Betty in a full Betty-Turbo-designed superhero costume, complete with retrofied cape, holding up a slice of pizza in one hand and a grocery bag of goodies in the other spreading joy, magic, and shenanigans throughout the land. Go, Betty Turbo!
If you plan to be in the Portland, Oregon area today and throughout the weekend, you can meet her and her delicious art in person at Crafty Wonderland at the Oregon Convention Center. Otherwise you can check out these sites and locations to buy your own piece of Betty Turbo radness.
