This week’s MotD theme: Round Homes
From World_Discoverer’s South Africa album on flickr, of Discovery Expeditions, comes this very colorful round Ndebele home (pronounced: in-da-belly) with lots of symbols and patterns. Makes me want to rethink the paint job on my house. It would certainly wake up the neighborhood. Great colors and design. And the concentric layers of thatch makes the whole thing delightful.
The vibrant symbols and expressions portray communications of personal prayers, self-identification, values, emotions, and marriage. … One quality of life that has never been expressed or directed through their walls is sacred expression. The rituals and religions have never been a part of the Ndebele’s house paintings. The women of the Ndebele are often the tradition carriers and the main developer of the wall art of their home. The tradition and style of house painting is passed down in the families from generation to generation by the mothers.

Inspiration for Today
The inspiration for today comes from one of my all-time favorite songs: “True Colors” written/sung by Cyndi Lauper.
I see your true colors
And that’s why I love you
So don’t be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful
Like a rainbow
If you would want your mandala or your idea for a mandala to be considered for the “Mandala of the Day”, read about how on the Participate page. It’s easy! Or recommend one you’ve seen via my Contact page.
