22-046 Excellence

Today’s Mandala
Strive for Excellence

We are what we repeatedly do.
Excellence, then, is not an act,
but a habit.
— Aristotle

Excellence is the gradual result
of always striving to do better.
— Pat Riley

The secret of joy in [life] is contained
in one word – excellence.
To know how to do [live life] well
is to enjoy it.
— Pearl S. Buck

Today’s MotD inspires us to forget about perfection (it’s unachievable) to instead strive for excellence. As the Pat Riley quote states: excellence means to always strive to do better. We get better with practice, patience, passion, tenacity, care, and a belief in ourselves that we can do better. [practice makes progress]

That being said, let’s find peace in knowing that we _are_ doing the best we can with the knowledge and experience we have in this moment. It may be that this is as far as we can go or as far as we want to go. It’s okay. At the same time, we are encouraged to find ways to accept that others are also doing their best regardless of how we see them or know them, allowing that this may be as far as they can or as far as they want to go.

So for ourselves, know that…

The will to win, the desire to succeed,
the urge to reach [our] full potential…
these are the keys that will unlock
the door to personal excellence.

— Confucius
