22-163 Searching

Today’s Mandala
Searching

“That peace which is within us,
we must experience it.
And if we are searching for peace outside
we will never find the peace within.”

— Prem Rawat

“It was difficult for me
because I was searching
for the answer for so long,
and the answer was
right in front of me.
Do what I do best.”

— Tommy Hilfiger

“You can search
throughout the entire universe
for someone who is more deserving
of your love and affection
than you are yourself,
and that person
is not to be found anywhere.
You yourself,
as much as anybody
in the entire universe
deserve your love and affection.”

— Buddha

Today’s MotD reminds us that most, if not all, that we seek, is already within us. As we go after things outside of ourselves, it’s important to ask ”why”. Why do I want it? What purpose does it serve? Is it in line with my authentic self, my truth? Mostly what we truly want is peace, well-being, and/or joy, which are all essentially one and the same…they all are attained from within.

Sure outside things and experiences can make it seem like they bring us peace, well-being, and/or joy; however it’s usually temporary. For instance, we can find peace in a beautiful sunset and yet if we let ourselves be annoyed because someone nearby is being a nuisance, then that momentary peace is gone. And yet, if we are truly at peace on the inside, no amount of annoyance outside of us would affect us.

That being said, we are meant to enjoy all that this world has to offer. Our challenge becomes recognizing that when we’re searching for well-being, it starts from within. Everything outside is just the icing on the cake…or the meringue on the lemon pie…or the cherry on top of a sundae.
