“Your vision will become clear
— Carl Jung
only when you can look
into your own heart.
Who looks outside, dreams;
who looks inside, awakes.”
“For beautiful eyes,
— Audrey Hepburn
look for the good in others;
for beautiful lips,
speak only words of kindness;
and for poise,
walk with the knowledge
that you are never alone.”
“It’s not what you look at that matters,
— Henry David Thoreau
it’s what you see.”
Today’s MotD encourages us to be aware of how we see the world around us and how we see the world within us. If we always look with critical eyes, we will always see things to criticize. If we always look with fearful eyes, we will always see things to fear. If we always look with peaceful eyes, we will always see things that bring peace.
Our challenge becomes finding a healthy balance of how we see. When in doubt, we are encouraged to look first with neutral eyes, giving ourselves the chance to take in the information and then allowing ourselves to consciously determine our perspective on the matter…knowing that we have the option to change our minds at any time.
While this can be a challenging when looking outwardly, it’s a greater challenge when looking inwardly. We’ve had years of conditioning and beliefs usually based on other’s opinions that have affected how we look at things. Now is a good time to look at them again to determine which ones are valid and which ones need to go.
“One way to get the most out of life
— William Feather
is to look upon it as an adventure.”
