Strive
“Perfection is impossible;
— Angela Watson
just strive to do your best.”
“What I strive for is
— Clarence Seedorf
that everywhere I go,
I leave a positive impact.”
“Strive not to be a success,
— Albert Einstein
but rather to be of value.”
Today’s MotD encourages us to strive for excellence…to seek ways to improve upon whatever it is that we do. Merriam-Webster defines strive as: “to devote serious effort or energy.” Our challenge becomes letting go of the futile goal of perfection, mainly because whose idea of perfection are we following? And why them?
From ChoosingTherapy.com: “Perfectionism is a loud inner critic telling you you’re not good enough no matter what you do or how hard you work. It’s very difficult to like who you are and feel competent and confident when negative self-talk is constantly screeching over the top of other thoughts and emotions.”
Our other challenge becomes learning how to manage our inner critic. From Lisa Firestone, Ph.D. on PsychAlive.com she offer 4 Steps to Conquer Your Inner Critic.
If we allow ourselves to be okay with incremental improvements as we continue to grow and expand, we’ll find that we are more accepting of ourselves and those who also strive to do better.
