Continuing with Principle #4 from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles” entitled “Believe it’s Possible”, I set the intention today to “believe it was possible” for me to work through an emotional trigger I experienced last night and into today. I knew that I was going to be meeting with the “trigger” person today and wanted to process it beforehand. I asked for insight while coloring.
Halfway through, I met with this person and found that I was eventually able to express that I was triggered by what happened and why I was triggered. Turns out this other person was also triggered by the same incident but from a different perspective. Thankfully, we were both able to talk it through…knowing that neither of us was blaming the other. We accepted that this “neutral thing” happened and that we both had different trigger responses to it. In the end we felt better for it and each of us had a better understanding of our part in it.
The coloring of this version reminds me of a patchwork quilt…bits and pieces of “cloth” sewn together. In this case each of the pieces represent the different life experiences that helped me grow. With that, I’m calling this one a success. I love how it turned out. There’s gold in “them thar triggers”!
So how about you? Do you believe its possible to learn and grow through your triggers? Are you even aware of what triggers you? What would work best for you to heal?
“Avoiding your triggers
— Vienna Pharaon
isn’t healing.
Healing happens
when you’re triggered
and you’re able to move
through the pain,
the pattern, and the story —
and walk your way
to a different ending.”
An Invitation
I invite you to color along with me this year as part of what I’m calling “The Year of Self-Exploration and Expansion” with all of my “Mandalas of the ___” (day, week, month, year). If you’re interested in more of a self-exploration approach to coloring, check out my “Coloring Mandalas as Meditation”. You can download this mandala to color at MandalaoftheWeek.com.
