23-090 Do It Anyway #6

Today’s Mandala Message: You’ve Overcome Fear Before…You Can Do it Again

This week I’m combining Principles #14 and #15 from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles” entitled “Lean Into It” and “Experience the Fear and Take Action Anyway”. I set my intention today to ponder the idea of remembering how I’ve overcome fear before. As a third technique for relieving fear, Canfield suggests looking to the past to remind ourselves of the times we’ve overcome the fear of trying something new. He says, “New experiences will always feel a little scary. They’re supposed to. That’s the way it works. …every time you face a fear and do it anyway, you build up that much more confidence in your abilities.”

Looking back I can remember quite a few times where I’ve overcome my fears and all for the better. Thinking about the fears I have now seems silly since in the past I’ve come out fine from every fearful experience I’ve had in some way, shape, or form, and to varying degrees of success. Which now makes me wonder where my current fears are coming from. My guess it’s because where I want to go is a bigger leap and has the potential to put me in a more vulnerable position. To which I hear my Inner Self say: “So what? You know how to fail, you know how to try again. Why is this any different? Besides it may be a brilliant success and just the thing people are waiting for you to offer.” Hmmm…in the big scheme of things, it’s just another step up the ladder.

So how about you? How many times have you overcome fear in the past? If you’ve done it before, can you do it again? What’s different now about your fear(s)?

“Each of us
must confront our own fears,
must come face to face with them.
How we handle our fears
will determine where we go
with the rest of our lives.
To experience adventure
or to be limited
by the fear of it.”
