Today’s Mandala Message: Give it Up for Yourself
This week I’m working through Principle #29 from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles” entitled “Complete your Past to Embrace the Future”. I set my intention today to ponder the idea of giving it up (letting go) for the betterment of myself and my well being. Canfield starts this section talking about it being hard to let go and I think that is so because we’ve held onto to our hurts and resentments for so long, we don’t know who we are without them.
Canfield states: “Whatever hurts you are feeling, know that I’ve felt many of them, too. But also know that what can hurt you even more is harboring the resentment, holding a grudge, and rerunning the same hatred over and over. The word forgive really means to give it up for yourself—not for them”.
And added perspective is to see forgiveness as forgiving ourselves for taking on the hurt, resentment, anger, etc. Over the years I’ve work through a lot of old grudges and resentment, specifically with my parents. Thankfully I’ve come to know them in a different light and I’m grateful for their sacrifice in bringing me into this world. That being said, I have more forgiveness work to do; this week’s principle is helping to move that along.
A good mindfulness practice would be to let go of _________ for your own well being.
So how about you? Are you holding onto grudges, resentments, hurts? Can you see that by holding onto them, they continue to hold you down and back? What would it take to release them?
