Lesson 150: Review of Lessons 139 and 140

AI Reframe: My awareness retains only what aligns with truth: acceptance and true healing.

Suggested Practice:
Two five-minute sessions: morning and evening. Start each session by opening your mind and clearing it of all thoughts that would deceive, and let this thought alone engage your mind fully, and remove the rest:

My mind holds only what I think with God*.

Then read each of today’s review ideas:

139: I will accept atonement for myself.
140: Only salvation can be said to cure.

Close your eyes and say them slowly to yourself. Let each idea give you the gift that He* has laid in it for you. Then close the practice with the first idea.

Throughout the day, each hour, bring to mind today’s main idea and two review ideas. Spend a quiet moment with them without adding any other thoughts.

*God: an impersonal, formless, and infinite principle of pure Love. Substitute whatever term that resonates best and allows you to receive the message. The Will of God is our happiness.

Message*

At the core of A Course in Miracles, as I understand it, is the idea that we—in human form—mistakenly believe we are separate from God, others, and our True Self. The reality, the Course teaches, is that there was and is no separation. We are all One.

“Atonement” is the undoing of this mistake, a correction of perception. My willingness to accept this for myself brings me a step closer to salvation—the “cure” that lets me see the love, light, and divinity in all of us. Reviewing Lessons 139 and 140 together shows us the goal (Atonement) and the way to get there (salvation).

How does this translate into everyday language? I’ll use the issue I’ve been sharing over the last few lessons: the guilt I feel because fear and limiting beliefs have held me back from my full potential as an artist—both in creating the art I want and giving myself permission to promote and sell it.

In the Course’s view, the real guilt is the belief that I separated myself from God, Love, and Light. Any other guilt is ego-based: a distraction the ego uses to protect itself. The way around it is to start by acknowledging the guilt out loud. For me:

“I feel guilty that I haven’t used my art supplies. I feel guilty that fear has held me back. I feel guilty about the time I’ve wasted.”

Next, ask: is the guilt about something I did, or about what I believe I am? Almost always it’s about what we did. That’s ego guilt. In my case, it’s about what I didn’t do—also ego guilt.

Then say: “This feeling is not the real problem. I am willing to look past it to the belief it protects.”That’s the start of Atonement—undoing the core belief.

For me: “This guilt is not the truth of who I am. It’s a feeling. Feelings change. I am willing to look past it.”

Our willingness is all that’s required. Holy Spirit will do the rest.

An appropriate action for me: one small thing with one art supply. Not a project or painting. A simple mark on scrap paper—practice showing up. Play for a few minutes. Let go of outcome. No need for success. I’m here and I’m safe.

So I did that. I’d been thinking for weeks now to let myself use one of my blank sketchbooks as playtime. Today, I took a step towards that, looking past what was keeping me from it, and pulled out scrap paper. I started with a couple of lines, then I found myself reaching for different media and just played. It was freeing.

actually, it looks like an eye just opening up

My takeaway—one I’ll revisit regularly—is that when it comes to being an artist, I am worthy of creating art without needing outcomes to prove it. I am as Love created me—salvation. We all are as Love created us—Atonement.

*Full Disclosure: I had a long chat with DeepSeek (AI) to workshop today’s review lessons, in particular, the concepts of Atonement, guilt, salvation, and forgiveness, which I find can sometimes be simple in theory and complex in practice. What you’ve read here—and I wrote—is my interpretation and summary from that chat as it best relates to what I wanted to share as my message.

If you’d like to see the full chat, which goes into far greater detail than what I could offer here, feel free to visit: https://chat.deepseek.com/share/3xpp9hbexpz5tzfqk4. IMHO, it’s worth the read. It clarified the interconnectedness of these terms, helping me differentiate their roles—and showing me how to work with them, not just understand them.”

“Just another reminder that the Course is absolutely correct: I see only what I decide to see.”
