Lesson 162: ”I am as God created me.”

Reframe:  I am complete and whole as I truly am.

Suggested Practice:

From the Lesson:

Today we practice simply. ²For the words we use are mighty, and they need no thoughts beyond themselves to change the mind of him who uses them. ³So wholly is it changed that it is now the treasury in which God* places all His gifts and all His Love, to be distributed to all the world, increased in giving; kept complete because its sharing is unlimited. ⁴And thus you learn to think with God. ⁵Christ’s** vision has restored your sight by salvaging your mind.” (ACIM, W-162.4:1-5)

While there is no clear direction on how to practice and for how long, my sense is that it would serve us best to repeat today’s idea, like a mantra or affirmation, as often as possible throughout the day. And most definitely before we sleep.

As an alternative to the term “God”, we can substitute today’s idea with something like:

I am as Love created me.
I am as the Universe created me.
I am as Light created me.
I am as Source created me.
I am as Divinity created me.
I am whole and complete just as I am.

*God/His: an impersonal, formless, and infinite principle of pure Love. Substitute whatever term that resonates best and allows you to receive the message. The Will of God is our happiness.

** Christ: Infinite Principle of Pure Love

Message

From the Lesson:

This single thought [I am as God created me], held firmly in the mind, would save the world.” (ACIM, W-162.1:1)

Holy indeed is [one] who makes these words [their] own; arising with them in [their] mind, recalling them throughout the day, at night bringing them with [them] as [one] goes to sleep. ²[Their] dreams are happy and [their] rest secure, [their] safety certain and [their] body healed, because [one] sleeps and wakens with the truth before [them] always. ³[They] will save the world, because [they give] the world what [they receive] each time [they practice] the words of truth.” (ACIM, W-162.3:1-3)

²Yours is the right to perfect holiness you now accept. ³With this acceptance is salvation brought to everyone…” (ACIM, W-162.5:2-3)

This last section pushes the envelope for me, because the idea of me being holy feels sacrilegious—after effects of a religious upbringing. Who am I to claim I’m holy? That I’m special? And yet, I know from the lessons so far that we’re reminded often: this isn’t about only me. Being holy applies to all of us. So, one, it doesn’t make me special. And two, why not embrace my holiness as well as everyone else’s?

Yes, our ego world is hierarchical, whether we want to face it or not. We judge some people as special, holy, and important, while others we judge as unworthy and useless. That’s not how God created us. As a society, we’ve lost our connection with each other and with who we truly are. We can restore that at the individual level with today’s practice.

For me, today’s lesson is an opportunity to remember what holiness really means and to remind myself throughout the day that we all are as God created us.

“The Truth (I am as God created me) is stronger than those erroneous thoughts.”
