Lesson 164: ”Now are we one with Him Who is our Source.

Reframe:  I remember my unity with the Source of all life.

Suggested Practice:
Spend time today opening your heart and mind to today’s idea.

From the Lesson (with light editing):

Open the curtain in your practicing by merely letting go all things you think you want. ²Your trifling treasures put away, and leave a clean and open space within your mind where [Source] can come, and offer you the treasure of salvation*. ³[Source] has need of your most holy mind to save the world. ⁴Is not this purpose worthy to be yours? ⁵Is not [Love’s] vision worthy to be sought above the world’s unsatisfying goals?” (ACIM, W-164.8:1-5)

Salvation is to goal of seeing the world—and everyone in it—through the eyes of love, thereby waking up from the dream of separation.

Message

I admit the lesson’s abundant religious terminology triggered me today. Usually I treat these terms as “symbols of symbols”—how the Course describes words—or I swap them with other language that resonates better, as I did in today’s practice explanation.

But not today. And because of that, I’m having trouble receiving the message. Which, come to think of it, may be what the lesson is trying to teach me. I recognize the resistance comes from my ego mind.

Why? It occurs to me that the more I embrace these lessons, the further I get from letting the ego mind be in charge. Which makes me think the ego fears its own death, so it’s doing all it can to stay in power. Interesting.

Bear with me as I process this.

If I treated the ego mind as a toddler who needs to stop using its binky, what would I say to ease its impending loss? The first thought that popped into my head: give the child something better. When we want to stop a bad habit, we don’t just stop it—we replace it.

So what can I offer my ego mind to assuage its fears and embrace a new role? Today’s lesson gives the answer: freedom. Freedom from having to figure everything out alone. I want to tell it: go outside and play. I’ve got this.

Visually, I see my ego mind as a small child dressed in full regalia like a Buckingham Palace Guard. It stands there searching for threats 24/7 with no relief in sight.

I came into this lesson triggered by religious language. I leave with an image: a toddler exhausted from a lifetime of standing at attention. It’s time to thank her and relieve her of duty. Time to give her the binky and let her go outside and play.

Now is the time for me, as my true Self, to unite with Source. Freedom awaits.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to point out that it is ONLY your remembrance of the past that condemns you to repeat it…”
