Lesson 165: ”Let not my mind deny the Thought of God.

Reframe:  Let me remain open to the higher perspective of truth.

Suggested Practice:
From the Lesson:

Practice today in hope. ²For hope indeed is justified. ³Your doubts are meaningless, for God is certain. ⁴And the Thought of Him is never absent. ⁵Sureness must abide within you who are host to Him. ⁶This course removes all doubts which you have interposed between Him and your certainty of Him.”

We count on God, and not upon ourselves, to give us certainty. ²And in His Name we practice as His Word directs we do. ³His sureness lies beyond our every doubt. ⁴His Love remains beyond our every fear. ⁵The Thought of Him is still beyond all dreams and in our minds, according to His Will.” (ACIM, W-165.7:1–8:5)

*God: an impersonal, formless, and infinite principle of pure Love. Substitute whatever term that resonates best and allows you to receive the message. The Will of God is our happiness.

Message

In reading today’s lesson I’m reminded of the holodeck from Star Trek: The Next Generation. It uses holograms to create a realistic 3D simulation where participants interact freely with the environment, objects, and characters—sometimes following a predefined story.

In a way, the holodeck helps me better understand our existence in human form as ACIM sees it, and our relationship with God.

Just as the holodeck takes a computer program and renders a convincing 3D world, the Course teaches that our minds take the ego’s belief in separation and project it outward to form the physical universe, other bodies, and all our personal circumstances.

On the holodeck, everything feels completely real. Our senses insist it’s real. The Course teaches that the body’s eyes were made specifically not to see reality, but to see the ego’s projections.

The Course also teaches that the people we interact with are not separate bodies with independent minds. They are part of our projection—like holographic characters on the holodeck. They reflect back the thoughts we’re believing in our own mind.

But the comparison ends with one major difference. When people enter the holodeck, they remember who they are and can simply say “end program.” In human form, the ego’s projection is designed to make us forget who we really are. The purpose of ACIM is to help us undo the ego within the dream, recognize its projections, and choose a different Teacher—the Holy Spirit—to interpret them.

This last point is what I want to use to help us grasp today’s lesson. The Course guides us to look at the scary figures in our holodeck and say, “I am not afraid of you. You are not real. You are a reflection of my belief that we are separate. I am now ready to change that belief.” In doing so, we heal our perception and embrace the truth of who we are.

With that clarity comes a decision. The Lesson asks:

“Who would deny his safety and his peace, his joy, his healing and his peace of mind, his quiet rest, his calm awakening, if he but recognized where they abide?” (W-165.3:1)

Do we stay in the holodeck dream and the uncertainty of the ego’s illusions, or do we wake up to the certainty of the Thought of God?

“As Lesson 165 clearly states, the only healing necessary is giving up old beliefs, changing the way I think, feel, and interact with the world.”
