Lesson 205: Review of Lesson 185 “I want the peace of God.”

Reframe: I welcome inner peace and alignment with clarity.

Suggested Practice:

Overall Approach to the Review of Lessons 181-200:

“Besides the time you give morning and evening, which should not be less than fifteen minutes, and the hourly remembrances you make throughout the day, use the idea as often as you can between them. ³Each of these ideas alone would be sufficient for salvation, if it were learned truly. ⁴Each would be enough to give release to you and to the world from every form of bondage, and invite the memory of God to come again. …

“These practice sessions … are centered round a central theme with which we start and end each lesson. ²It is this:

³I am not a body. ⁴I am free.
⁵For I am still as God created me.

Special thought for today’s Lesson:

185: I want the peace of God

“The peace of God is everything I want. ³The peace of God is my one goal; the aim of all my living here, the end I seek, my purpose and my function and my life, while I abide where I am not at home.
(ACIM, W-205.1:2-3)

⁶The day begins and ends with this. ⁷And we repeat it every time the hour strikes, or we remember, in between, we have a function that transcends the world we see. ⁸Beyond this, and a repetition of the special thought we practice for the day, no form of exercise is urged, except a deep relinquishment of everything that clutters up the mind, and makes it deaf to reason, sanity and simple truth.

(ACIM, W-rVI.in.1:1–3:8)

“…Permit no idle thought to go unchallenged. ³If you notice one, deny its hold and hasten to assure your mind that this is not what it would have. ⁴Then gently let the thought which you denied be given up, in sure and quick exchange for the idea we practice for the day.”

When you are tempted, hasten to proclaim your freedom from temptation, as you say:

This thought I do not want. ³I choose instead _____________

And then repeat the idea for the day, and let it take the place of what you thought.” (ACIM, W-rVI.in.5:1–6:4)

Message

With today’s review, I realized what the peace of God means—at least to me. Before, I thought it meant everything would be peaceful and beautiful, like a tropical paradise. No worries. No cares. Everyone and everything around me joyful and tranquil.

But today, remembering a line from an earlier lesson about being a stranger in a strange land, my perspective shifted. It reminds me that I’m living in an illusion—think Star Trek’s holodeck. While I’m here, it’s easy to forget this truth and take everything from the ego’s perspective: scary, limiting, and painful.

In Star Trek, crew members who enter the holodeck know they’re in an illusion and know how to exit. We’ve forgotten we entered one, so we think this must be real life. This is where the Course comes in—its text, workbook, and manual for teachers let us know that our existence in these human bodies is our holodeck experience. The fears and illusions keep us trapped.

Which brings me to today’s Lesson. The peace of God means I remember who I am and where I am. It means I know I am as God created me, I am the Light of God, and I am one with God. Remembering these gifts while going through the trials of human form—that’s the peace of God I want.

When I remember, the weight drops. I recognize myself as the sufferer, shift from victim to observer, and ask to see the situation differently. Insight and guidance become more readily available. The next step forward in any situation gets clearer. That’s why I want it.

Remembering that I am the Light of God, whole and complete, while I’m stuck in traffic, for instance, resets my reality and truth. I recognize I’m upset, I see the ego’s hand in it, and I ask to see the situation differently. The peace follows.
