Lesson 166: ”I am entrusted with the gifts of God.
Reframe: I am a steward of the gifts of love, wisdom, and clarity.
Suggested Practice:
Spend 5-15 minutes, and then moments throughout the day, pondering today’s idea that the gifts of God have been given to everyone. As we awaken to these gives, then be the living proof of these gifts, enabling others to awaken to these gifts for themselves.
From the Lesson:
”Your hand becomes the giver of Christ’s touch; your change of mind becomes the proof that who accepts God’s gifts can never suffer anything. ⁶You are entrusted with the world’s release from pain.“
“Betray it not. ²Become the living proof of what Christ’s touch can offer everyone. ³God has entrusted all His gifts to you. ⁴Be witness in your happiness to how transformed the mind becomes which chooses to accept His gifts, and feel the touch of Christ. ⁵Such is your mission now. ⁶For God entrusts the giving of His gifts to all who have received them. ⁷He has shared His joy with you. ⁸And now you go to share it with the world.”(ACIM, W-166.14:5–15:8)
Message
This morning, before I read today’s lesson, I felt a tremendous amount of sadness for no obvious reason. I’m sure much of it is unprocessed emotions from my recent trip and plain old day-to-day living with all that’s going on in the world from the ego mind’s perspective: fear, worry, and uncertainty.
Usually when I feel this way, I do something to take my mind off it—ignore it, or worse, stuff it. Today, though, I did what the Course teaches: acknowledge whatever I’m feeling and be present with it. After a few minutes of letting it all out, my Inner Voice said, “Read today’s lesson.”
While reading, a persistent image kept popping up: a glass dome. Inside, I see different scenarios of people doing everyday things—having conversations, doing dishes, working at their jobs. In all of them, I sense very little, if any, happiness. Outside, around the perimeter of the dome, people are banging on the glass, shouting at the people inside, trying desperately to get their attention. They want to wake them up from the dream. To show them there’s a better world outside the dome.
That’s what this lesson feels like to me. It’s showing me that I can choose to continue living under the ego’s dome, or I can embrace the gifts entrusted to me. This isn’t telling me to put on a facade of happiness when I’m feeling sad. It’s telling me it’s okay to feel sad—to acknowledge it, be with it as the observer. As if to say, “That’s interesting. This morning I’m feeling sad. Let’s see what’s going on with that.” From this space, I can ask the Holy Spirit to show me how to see this differently. I can also ask, “What would Love have me do in this moment?”
So I acknowledged the sadness and let myself feel it, without judgment. Holy Spirit came in with the “read the lesson” message. And in the vision, I know the ones banging on the glass are me—my True Self—letting me know: I can stay in the dome and suffer with the sadness, or I can come out of it and be at peace even if the sadness is still present.
That’s the gift.
“Lesson 166 (I am entrusted with gifts of Source) says all gifts are given without exception with nothing held back.”
