Lesson 207: Review of Lesson 187: I bless the world because I bless myself.

Reframe: Extending kindness to myself radiates outward.

Suggested Practice:

Overall Approach to the Review of Lessons 181-200:

“Besides the time you give morning and evening, which should not be less than fifteen minutes, and the hourly remembrances you make throughout the day, use the idea as often as you can between them. ³Each of these ideas alone would be sufficient for salvation, if it were learned truly. ⁴Each would be enough to give release to you and to the world from every form of bondage, and invite the memory of God to come again. …

“These practice sessions … are centered round a central theme with which we start and end each lesson. ²It is this:

³I am not a body. ⁴I am free.
⁵For I am still as God created me.

Special thought for today’s Lesson:

187: I bless the world because I bless myself.

God’s blessing shines upon me from within my heart, where He abides. ³I need but turn to Him, and every sorrow melts away, as I accept His boundless Love for me.” (ACIM, W-207.1:2-3)

⁶The day begins and ends with this. ⁷And we repeat it every time the hour strikes, or we remember, in between, we have a function that transcends the world we see. ⁸Beyond this, and a repetition of the special thought we practice for the day, no form of exercise is urged, except a deep relinquishment of everything that clutters up the mind, and makes it deaf to reason, sanity and simple truth.(ACIM, W-rVI.in.1:1–3:8)

“…Permit no idle thought to go unchallenged. ³If you notice one, deny its hold and hasten to assure your mind that this is not what it would have. ⁴Then gently let the thought which you denied be given up, in sure and quick exchange for the idea we practice for the day.”

When you are tempted, hasten to proclaim your freedom from temptation, as you say:

This thought I do not want. ³I choose instead _____________

And then repeat the idea for the day, and let it take the place of what you thought.” (ACIM, W-rVI.in.5:1–6:4)

Message

For me, the key takeaway from this lesson is that regardless of our human experience, foibles, or trials—and regardless of whether we or our situations are perceived as “good” or “bad”—God’s blessings shine equally within us all, from the heart where He abides.

No one is more blessed than anyone else, despite appearances to the contrary. The ego judges and assigns varying levels of blessing. From its perspective, the person in a mansion with a fancy car and designer clothes appears more blessed than the one in a rundown apartment buying thrift store clothes.

But God’s blessings, per the Course, are beyond earthly possessions. We are boundless beings of love, created by God, whole and complete with or without these bodies. United as one with God, we all have unlimited access to His love and support. Peace, love, and joy are our natural state, and we are all gifted equally.

Remembering this makes it easier for me to see the world and everyone in it in a more positive, blessed light. We’re all on the same journey—seemingly strangers in a strange land of illusions. Experiencing life from this perspective helps me maintain my peace, no matter what weird, chaotic nonsense is going on around me.

When I catch myself being triggered over something on the news—some tragedy or wrongdoing—I notice that fear and pity don’t help anyone, including me. They just make me less useful. So I pause and remember today’s lesson: we’re all equally blessed, regardless of the surface chaos. That brings me back to peace. From there, I can check in honestly: Is there something I can actually do? Most times, the answer is no. So I send loving energy their way and trust that’s enough.

“Are we really 16 times crazier today ? Or are we simply reacting to expectations, peer pressure, and the suggestion of mental illness ?”
