Lesson 214: Review of Lesson 194: I place the future in the Hands of God

Reframe: I release attachment and trust the unfolding of life.

Suggested Practice:

Overall Approach to the Review of Lessons 181-200:

“Besides the time you give morning and evening, which should not be less than fifteen minutes, and the hourly remembrances you make throughout the day, use the idea as often as you can between them. ³Each of these ideas alone would be sufficient for salvation, if it were learned truly. ⁴Each would be enough to give release to you and to the world from every form of bondage, and invite the memory of God to come again. …

“These practice sessions … are centered round a central theme with which we start and end each lesson. ²It is this:

³I am not a body. ⁴I am free.
⁵For I am still as God created me.

Special thought for today’s Lesson:

194: I place the future in the Hands of God.

²The past is gone; the future is not yet. ³Now am I freed from both. ⁴For what God gives can only be for good. ⁵And I accept but what He gives as what belongs to me. (ACIM, W-214.1:2-5)

⁶The day begins and ends with this. ⁷And we repeat it every time the hour strikes, or we remember, in between, we have a function that transcends the world we see. ⁸Beyond this, and a repetition of the special thought we practice for the day, no form of exercise is urged, except a deep relinquishment of everything that clutters up the mind, and makes it deaf to reason, sanity and simple truth. (ACIM, W-rVI.in.1:1–3:8)

“…Permit no idle thought to go unchallenged. ³If you notice one, deny its hold and hasten to assure your mind that this is not what it would have. ⁴Then gently let the thought which you denied be given up, in sure and quick exchange for the idea we practice for the day.”

When you are tempted, hasten to proclaim your freedom from temptation, as you say:

This thought I do not want. ³I choose instead _____________

And then repeat the idea for the day, and let it take the place of what you thought.” (ACIM, W-rVI.in.5:1–6:4)

Message

Simple message #1: Be here now—it’s all we truly have. The past is done. The future hasn’t arrived. Now is the only time we can actually do anything.

Simple message #2: Declare your intention (short or long term) to God/Universe/Source, and trust Them to handle the how.

Sometimes complex truths can be expressed in the simplest of ways.

Here’s a short-term example of message #2 that happened today: I went with a neighborhood friend to an event on the Oregon coast, about 1.5 hours away. Before we left, we set the intention to arrive safely, quickly, easily, and with grace—and that by the end of the day, we’d both be glad we went and that we went together. On the way home, we set the same intention.

It was an amazing day, full of surprises and delights—better than I could have imagined. Not one discourteous driver in either direction. And considering it was summer on the coast, we hit little to no traffic. Wonderfully easy.

So yes, I’m happy when I place my future in the Hands of God. I just need to remember to do it more often.

“I celebrate that life never ends. It simply changes form and evolves into ever new shapes and beauty.”
