Lesson 215: Review of Lesson 195: Love is the way I walk in gratitude.

Reframe: Gratitude guides my steps and expresses through love.

Suggested Practice:

Overall Approach to the Review of Lessons 181-200:

“Besides the time you give morning and evening, which should not be less than fifteen minutes, and the hourly remembrances you make throughout the day, use the idea as often as you can between them. ³Each of these ideas alone would be sufficient for salvation, if it were learned truly. ⁴Each would be enough to give release to you and to the world from every form of bondage, and invite the memory of God to come again. …

“These practice sessions … are centered round a central theme with which we start and end each lesson. ²It is this:

³I am not a body. ⁴I am free.
⁵For I am still as God created me.

Special thought for today’s Lesson:

195: Love is the way I walk in gratitude.

²The Holy Spirit is my only Guide. ³He walks with me in love. ⁴And I give thanks to Him for showing me the way to go. (ACIM, W-215.1:2-4)

⁶The day begins and ends with this. ⁷And we repeat it every time the hour strikes, or we remember, in between, we have a function that transcends the world we see. ⁸Beyond this, and a repetition of the special thought we practice for the day, no form of exercise is urged, except a deep relinquishment of everything that clutters up the mind, and makes it deaf to reason, sanity and simple truth.

(ACIM, W-rVI.in.1:1–3:8)

“…Permit no idle thought to go unchallenged. ³If you notice one, deny its hold and hasten to assure your mind that this is not what it would have. ⁴Then gently let the thought which you denied be given up, in sure and quick exchange for the idea we practice for the day.”

When you are tempted, hasten to proclaim your freedom from temptation, as you say:

This thought I do not want. ³I choose instead _____________

And then repeat the idea for the day, and let it take the place of what you thought.” (ACIM, W-rVI.in.5:1–6:4)

Message

In the Special Thought for today’s practice, it says: “The Holy Spirit is my only Guide.” Up until now, the Course and I haven’t said much about who the Holy Spirit is or what Its role is. Today seems like a good time to share what ACIM says.

From the Clarification of Terms section of ACIM:

“The Holy Spirit is described as the remaining Communication Link between God and His separated Sons [that’s us]. He knows because He is part of God; He perceives because He was sent to save humanity. He is the great correction principle; the bringer of true perception, the inherent power of the vision of Christ. He is the light in which the forgiven world is perceived; in which the face of Christ alone is seen. He never forgets the Creator or His creation. He never forgets the Son of God. He never forgets you. And He brings the Love of your Father to you in an eternal shining that will never be obliterated because God has put it there.”

“The Holy Spirit abides in the part of your mind that is part of the Christ Mind. He represents your Self and your Creator, Who are One. He speaks for God and also for you, being joined with Both. He seems to be a Voice, for in that form He speaks God’s Word to you. He seems to be a Guide through a far country, for you need that form of help. He seems to be whatever meets the needs you think you have. But He is not deceived when you perceive your self entrapped in needs you do not have. It is from these He would deliver you. It is from these that He would make you safe.” (ACIM, C-6.3:1–4:10)

Based on this, the Holy Spirit could be seen as a Guardian Angel, a divine personal assistant, or a direct lifeline to God. For some, the term “Holy Spirit” is less triggering than “God.” However you see the Holy Spirit—and whatever name you use to connect—do what works best for you.

I’ve used the term Holy Spirit, but I also switch it up depending on my state of mind: Divine Intelligence, Team of Guides and Angels, etc. (I know this isn’t ACIM language—it’s just how I sometimes picture the connection.) Regardless of the term, my intention is to connect with the infinite principle of pure Love—what we call God. The words aren’t what matter; the intention behind them is.

I’m grateful for whatever form of communication helps me make that connection. And that connection—however I reach it—is what makes walking in gratitude possible today.

“I’m devoted to a different type of spring cleaning Tossing out useless ideas I picked up during childhood, all those “You can’t. It’s hard. Why bother ?”
