Lesson 226: ”My home awaits me. I will hasten there.”

Reframe: I am returning to my center of peace and clarity.

Suggested Practice:

From now on:
One in the morning and one in the evening for however many minutes feels sufficient. Then every hour remember/recite the idea for the day.

Prayer For today:
(feel free to swap out the wording to whatever resonates with you best)

Father, my home awaits my glad return. ²Your Arms are open and I hear Your Voice. ³What need have I to linger in a place of vain desires and of shattered dreams, when Heaven can so easily be mine?” (ACIM, W-226.2:1-3)

From the PART II IntroductionRead the whole introduction here.

Words will mean little now. ²We use them but as guides on which we do not now depend. ³For now we seek direct experience of truth alone. ⁴The lessons that remain are merely introductions to the times in which we leave the world of pain, and go to enter peace. ⁵Now we begin to reach the goal this course has set, and find the end toward which our practicing was always geared.” (ACIM, W-pII.in.1:1-5)

For Lessons 221-230: Forgiveness is the theme. Read the whole article here.
“Forgiveness recognizes what you thought your brother did to you has not occurred. ²It does not pardon sins and make them real. ³It sees there was no sin. ⁴And in that view are all your sins forgiven. ⁵What is sin, except a false idea about God’s Son? ⁶Forgiveness merely sees its falsity, and therefore lets it go. ⁷What then is free to take its place is now the Will of God.” (ACIM, W-pII.1.1:1-7)

Message

Today’s lesson has wording that could be alarming if you read it quickly: “I can depart this world entirely.” So let me pause right there—because the Course is not, and has never been, about physical death. It’s about releasing our attachment to the ego’s value system. Think of it like this:

“If I choose to, I can let go of my investment in this world’s values. This isn’t about leaving my body—it’s about changing my mind about what the world is for. If I still believe it can give me something I truly need, it keeps its hold on me. But if I see that nothing here is ultimately worth clinging to or chasing after, its grip on my mind loosens. Because I’ve stopped looking for false answers to replace the real one.”

This lesson reminds me that while we’re in human form, we have a choice. We can continue to let the ego mind rule our lives with its fears, limiting beliefs, and grievances, or we can opt for the Divine mind, where peace and clarity reign regardless of whatever chaos is going on around us. It’s this peace place the Course calls home.

Admittedly, ego mind seems to be my default mode. So I have to make a conscious effort to shift to Divine mode. My cycle is: ego mode → I notice it → I remember the Course’s teachings → I apply them → I’m in Divine mode → I lose my focus → back to ego mode. By doing the lessons and practices, my ego mode time is getting shorter. I’m striving to make Divine mode the default—home, per the Course.

A simple example: when I hurt my right thumb, I kept reaching with it out of habit. Every time I went to unscrew a jar cap, I’d have to stop and consciously use my left hand instead. Over time, I retrained my brain. Now I don’t think about it—I just use my left hand automatically.

The takeaway for me is that home is an internal mindset where peace, love, and joy exist, free of the ego’s illusions. There’s nothing I have to do to make this home—it already exists. All I need to do is remember and choose otherwise—that’s me hastening.
