Lesson 230: ”Now will I seek and find the peace of God.”
Reframe: I choose to welcome and recognize inner peace now.
Suggested Practice:
From now on:
One in the morning and one in the evening for however many minutes feels sufficient. Then every hour remember/recite the idea for the day.
Prayer For today:
(feel free to swap out the wording to whatever resonates with you best)
“Father, I seek the peace You gave as mine in my creation. ²What was given then must be here now, for my creation was apart from time, and still remains beyond all change. ³The peace in which Your Son was born into Your Mind is shining there unchanged. ⁴I am as You created me. ⁵I need but call on You to find the peace You gave. ⁶It is Your Will that gave it to Your Son.” (ACIM, W-230.2:1-6)
From the PART II Introduction: Read the whole introduction here.
“Words will mean little now. ²We use them but as guides on which we do not now depend. ³For now we seek direct experience of truth alone. ⁴The lessons that remain are merely introductions to the times in which we leave the world of pain, and go to enter peace. ⁵Now we begin to reach the goal this course has set, and find the end toward which our practicing was always geared.” (ACIM, W-pII.in.1:1-5)
For Lessons 221-230: Forgiveness is the theme. Read the whole article here.
“Forgiveness recognizes what you thought your brother did to you has not occurred. ²It does not pardon sins and make them real. ³It sees there was no sin. ⁴And in that view are all your sins forgiven. ⁵What is sin, except a false idea about God’s Son? ⁶Forgiveness merely sees its falsity, and therefore lets it go. ⁷What then is free to take its place is now the Will of God.” (ACIM, W-pII.1.1:1-7)

Message
From the Lesson:
“In peace I was created. ²And in peace do I remain. ³It is not given me to change my Self. ⁴How merciful is God my Father, that when He created me He gave me peace forever. ⁵Now I ask but to be what I am. ⁶And can this be denied me, when it is forever true?” (ACIM, W-230.1:1-6)
Have you ever looked for your glasses only to realize much, much later when looking in a mirror, they were on top of your head the whole time? Yeah? Well, it’s the same with trying to find the peace of God—it’s been with us the whole time. It’s like that song “Looking for love in all the wrong places”, we’ve been looking for the peace of God in all the wrong places.
We often think it’s time related as in I’ll be at peace when I finish this project or when I pay off my debt or when I graduate college. Nope. Peace isn’t found in any of those places. Or we think of it in terms of “if only” as in if only I had listened to my teacher or if only I hadn’t quit that job or one of my personal favorites: if only I hadn’t gotten married at 22. What the hell was I thinking? Nope. Peace isn’t there either.
The Course tells us repeatedly, we could see peace instead of “this”—replace “this” with your situation du jour. This doesn’t mean the situation doesn’t exist or that you ignore it, no, it means that even though you’re in the situation, within you—within each of us—is the peace of God. And per the Course, the peace of God is what we are.
For instance, I’ve caught myself, more than once, saying “I’ll be glad when this painting is done.” It’s my Archangel Mandala Number 3 painting. I know when it’s done it’s going to look fine because I trust my process. Right now, though, it looks like a hot mess and I’m doubting myself and therefore peace is nowhere to be found. And because of that I keep avoiding working on it.
With today’s Lesson, I’m reminded that the way through this is to face this painting while asking the Holy Spirit to help me see peace in this painting instead of fear. I could declare to this painting “I could see peace instead of the ‘hot mess’ my ego is seeing”.
Writing that just now, took away the anxiety I have about the painting, as if a distortion “veil” was removed, allowing me to see the truth about the painting—that it is neutral. With that perspective change, I don’t have to wait until the painting is finished to see peace. I can—and will—see and find the peace of God now, which allows me to see more clearly how best to continue with painting it.
I see now that we’re encouraged to move aside the ego’s distorted view so we can see the truth: the peace of God was—and is—always there.
